Race week is finally here for the 2026 Kentucky Derby and there's a wide-open field full of contenders slated to compete in the 152nd Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 2.
Renegade is the favorite, according to the latest betting odds, but he drew the unfavorable No. 1 post position along the rail, a spot that hasn't produced a Kentucky Derby winner since Ferdinand in 1986. Commandment, Further Ado and Chief Wallabee are also among the top contenders following the post position draw.
There have also been a couple scratches and replacements among the 20 horses in the field, with four more horses waiting as alternates if anyone else drops out between now and post time on Saturday.
