Home Minister G. Parameshwara has said that a notification for recruitment to 56,834 vacant posts across various State government departments is expected to be issued within a week signalling a major push to strengthen administrative capacity.Addressing presspersons at the Police Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday, Dr. Parameshwara said that delays in recruitment has largely stemmed from issues related to internal reservation which have now been resolved.“The Cabinet has already approved filling of thousands of vacancies. With the reservation concerns addressed, the process will now move forward swiftly,” he noted.Of the total vacancies, around 8,000 posts are earmarked for police constables, while 600 positions will be for Sub-Inspectors of Police.Referring to earlier controversies surrounding Sub-Inspector recruitment, the Minister said that the process has been revisited to ensure transparency.“Following the cancellation of earlier recruitments, we have completed fresh selections. A total of 947 Sub-Inspectors, including 402 newly inducted officers, have been recruited and sent for training,” he said.Highlighting infrastructure development, Dr. Parameshwara said that under KKRDB funding, significant investments have been made in traffic management systems and police mobility.While ₹50 crore has been allocated earlier, a fresh proposal seeking ₹100 crore has been submitted. Additionally, 72 residential quarters have been constructed at a cost of ₹20 crore. The State government aims to provide housing facilities to nearly 80% of police personnel by 2030, he added.Replying to a question regarding the ATM robbery case in Bidar, the Minister said that preliminary inputs suggest that the accused may have fled abroad.“Investigative teams are closely tracking their movements and we are confident of securing arrests soon,” he said.Reiterating the State government’s commitment to policing reforms, Dr. Parameshwara said that the police force ranks among the best in the country.He pointed to measures such as introducing new uniforms (replacing slouch hats with peak caps) and administrative changes aimed at enhancing morale and professionalism within the force.The State government has, in the recent Budget, also sanctioned the establishment of 12 new police stations and the allocated funds are being released on time, he added.On cybercrime, Dr. Parameshwara said that a dedicated Director-General of Police has been appointed to handle such cases.“While approximately 24,000 cybercrime cases were reported in 2024, the number came down to around 14,000 in 2025, reflecting improved enforcement and awareness,” he said.He also inaugurated the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) and flagged off new vehicles funded under the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB).Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, MLA and Deputy Chairman of Karnataka State Policy and Planning Commission B.R.
