A Chicago man has been charged with first-degree murder and multiple other felonies in connection with the fatal shooting of a police officer and the critical wounding of a second officer at a North Side hospital over the weekend, authorities said.
Alphanso Talley, 26, was charged on April 27 with 20 felony counts, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery, and aggravated battery of a peace officer, according to the Chicago Police Department. Police said three warrants were also issued in the case.
The charges include counts related to an armed robbery that occurred earlier on April 25 on the city's North Side and the shooting at the Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, according to police.
Officers arrested Talley at around 12:15 p.m. local time on April 25 near the hospital after identifying him as the suspect in a fatal shooting that took place less than two hours earlier, authorities said. During the shooting, police said one officer was fatally shot and a second officer was critically injured.
Talley fled the scene after the shooting, and officers later recovered a weapon when he was taken into custody, according to police.
