The State government on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) to strengthen legal literacy and child protection mechanisms in schools across the State.
The initiative aims to integrate legal awareness into the school education system and promote constitutional values among students from an early age. It will be implemented in 5,711 high schools, including government, aided, residential, and model schools in the State.
The programme covers legal literacy sessions for students and teachers, awareness campaigns on child rights and protection laws, and the establishment of Legal Literacy Clubs and Child Rights Clubs in schools. Every school will designate a teacher as a Child Protection Officer to monitor safety and welfare concerns. It also includes training for teachers, provision of legal aid and counselling services, and efforts to identify and support school dropouts.
Officials said that the initiative will create a safe, inclusive, and informed educational environment while empowering students with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities.
Director of School Education E. Naveen Nicolas and Member Secretary-TSLSA Ch. Panchakshari participated in the signing ceremony. The MoU will remain in force for two years, with a provision for extension by mutual agreement.
