Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University has restricted Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College for Women (mLAC) (Autonomous) from admitting students for the academic year 2026-27 due to non-renewal of its land lease.

The college’s land lease agreement of mLAC expired in 2008 and had not been renewed for the past 23 years.

The university, which has issued a notice in this regard, said, “The land lease of the college has expired and has not been renewed yet. Therefore, this land is not in the custody of the college or the trust that manages it. In addition, since the autonomy already granted to the college is applicable only for the academic year 2025-26, no admissions can be made for the academic year 2026-27 until the government issues a notification to continue the autonomy.”

This has hit admissions. “The II PU results have already been announced, and the admission process for degree courses is about to begin. However, due to the non-renewal of the land lease, the university has imposed restrictions on admissions. A request has already been submitted to the Higher Education Department to remove the restrictions on admissions,” said S.S. Naganad, Chairman of the mLAC Trust.

The mLAC was established in 1972 by noted educationist K.N.V. Shastri and in 1977, the State government gave one acre land at Malleswaram, 18th cross which belongs to the Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) now.
