Demand for earthen pots has increased across Coimbatore as summer intensifies, with many households turning to traditional methods to store drinking water.

Temperatures have touched 38 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department, driving demand for earthen pots in the city.

Traders in Kavundampalayam report a steady rise in sales over the past week. Roadside vendors and small shops have expanded their stock, displaying rows of clay pots of different sizes.

P. Sundar Raj, a manufacturer supplying to the city, said production has picked up in response to seasonal demand. For many potters, summer remains the main source of income. He also pointed to concerns over the availability of suitable clay soil in and around the Coimbatore region, which has made sourcing raw material difficult.

Manufacturers begin making drinking water pots nearly six months ahead of summer to ensure adequate supply during peak demand.
