Kolathur constituency has witnessed a good voter turnout (86.08%), and this gated community has contributed in no small measure to it.
Orchid Springs, a gated community in Kolathur, got its club house to function as polling booths on election day (April 23), drawing an enthusiastic response from residents.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) seeks to bring polling stations closer to voters’ residences. And the initiative worked like a charm here. Two halls in the Club House saw an average voter turnout of 77%.
From elaborate kolams leading to the community hall, eco-friendly decor to thirst quenchers, the management committee of the gated community rolled out the red carpet to voters.
When the ECI had sought interest from gated communities in serving as polling booths, Orchid Springs Owners Association was among associations in Chennai to have put their hands up.
