Members of the Bar Association, Advocates Association, and Lawyers Association jointly stayed away from court proceedings at the Combined District Court Complex in Tiruvannamalai town on Friday (April 24, 2026), demanding air-conditioned court halls in the complex.

The day-long court boycott by advocates comes after several petitions having been sent to the State government and higher judiciary by advocates to install air-conditioners in the existing 15 court halls of the complex.

With searing temperature in the temple town of Tiruvannamalai, the existing court halls have ordinary ceiling fans that do not provide much relief to judges, advocates, and litigants, who wait for long hours in the court complex before their cases are heard at respective court halls. “It was a long-standing demand of advocates and court staff, especially in an arid region like Tiruvannamalai where humidity is high, especially during summer,” said S. Vetri Karthi, an advocate.

Unaware of the boycott of courts by law practitioners, several litigants, including women and senior citizens, visited the court from faraway remote villages in the district. Cases that came up for hearing in these courts were adjourned to a later date.
