Skip to Main ContentU.S. Officials Worry Iran War May Hinder Ability To Defend Taiwan: ReportSome officials within the Trump administration worry the decision to expend a massive number of munitions in Iran could make it harder for the U.S. to help defend Taiwan if China launches an invasion anytime soon, according to a Thursday report by The Wall Street Journal.Since launching its war with Iran in February, the U.S. military has reportedly launched more than 1,000 long-range Tomahawk missiles and up to 2,000 critical missile interceptors. Replacing those stockpiles could take up to six years, officials told the Journal, leaving American soldiers exposed to increased risk should Trump send them to protect the self-governing island.U.S. officials have previously said there is no sign of conflict with China in the near future. Still, the Pentagon is reportedly moving to obtain more munitions while pressuring defense companies to increase production.See All UpdatesClose
