Over 6.68 lakh students have signed up to appear in the second board exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for the academic year of 2025-26, scheduled from May 15 to May 21.

While a majority of the 6,68,854 students are appearing for getting their scores improved (up to 5,25,655), another 85,285 are reappearing under the Compartment category. Additionally, 57,914 students are appearing both under the Compartment category and also in order to get their scores improved.

The Compartment category is a provision by the CBSE that allows Class 10 students who did not pass in one or two subjects (scored below 33%) out of the five main subjects to clear those papers without repeating the entire academic year, while Improvement is for students who passed but want to increase their marks.
