A 41-year-old man, who was earlier arrested by the Balanagar police, was convicted and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years in connection with an attempted sexual assault on a minor girl. The court slapped a fine of ₹10,000 on the accused and awarded ₹3 lakh as compensation to the victim.
The accused, Korra Shivashankar alias Raju, a labourer and resident of Yousufguda, originally from Ananthapuram in Andhra Pradesh, was found guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the police, the incident was reported on June 5, 2017, when the victim was alone at home as her mother had gone out for work. The accused fled the scene after the minor girl raised an alarm.
Police registered a case and arrested the accused on June 14, 2017. After investigation, a chargesheet was filed. Following trial, the Fast Track Special Court for POCSO cases at Kukatpally convicted the accused.
