A man convicted of attempting to rape a minor girl has been sentenced to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment for twenty years, besides payment of ₹5,000 as fine. The court has also directed the State government to pay ₹10.50 lakh as compensation to the victim.

District POCSO Court judge T. Keshava convicted Palla Venkata Vidya Kiran, 35, of Meerapuram village in Kamalapuram mandal, on charges of rape and sexual assault of a minor under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Superintendent of Police Shelke Nachiket Vishwanath told the media at Kamalapuram Police Station on Monday (April 13, 2026) that the incident had occurred on July 2, 2021. “The accused, who had gone to the victim’s house for his work, tried to physically abuse her,” he said.

When the victim screamed, the accused fled. Her parents filed a complaint, on the basis of which the then Sub-Inspector T. Tulasi Naga Prasad registered a case. The then Kadapa Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) B. Suneel arrested the accused and filed a chargesheet before the court.
