Election flying squad officials on Wednesday seized over ₹78 lakh cash in ₹500 denomination notes and documents related to alleged distribution of money to voters from the residence of Sathiyamoorthy, a personal assistant to DMK candidate Dha. Velu in the Mylapore constituency.
Acting on specific inputs, the flying squad conducted a search at Sathiyamoorthy’s apartment in Mandaveli, with armed police security.
During the inspection, officials found cash suspected to be intended for distribution to voters. In the initial phase, they seized documents indicating disbursal of money and records related to distribution of cash to voters in the Mandaveli area, sources said.
A detailed search of the premises followed, during which bundles of ₹500 notes were recovered from the kitchen. Further search in other parts of the house led to the seizure of more cash. Officials also confiscated written instructions allegedly meant for distributing money to local functionaries and a cash-counting machine. Sathiyamoorthy is currently being questioned in connection with the case, and further investigation is under way, sources said.
