Traffic police booked 462 cases and imposed fines totalling ₹82,400 during a special enforcement drive against illegal and non-standard number plates across Malkajgiri on April 21.

The drive targeted vehicles displaying fancy, tampered or obscured registration plates at major junctions in Trimulgherry and Malkajgiri divisions. Police said 66 repeat offenders were chargesheeted, including motorists found violating norms for a third time and those driving without number plates.

Officials inspected vehicles for compliance with High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) standards, including proper font, size and visibility. They said improper number plates hinder identification of vehicles involved in offences and compromise road safety.

Police urged motorists to use only authorised number plates and warned that repeat violations would invite prosecution, adding that such drives will continue regularly.
