On the eve of the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, tourists returned to the scenic destination with a new pledge: “We will keep coming to paradise.” With the hill station teeming once again with tourists, hotels are offering rebates on tariffs.

Pony riders, and taxis are offering free rides on Wednesday (April 22, 2026) as a goodwill gesture. “Many taxi drivers have volunteered to offer a one-hour free drive to tourists on the occasion,” Jan Khatana, a driver, said.

Riders, who provide the activity of horse riding to tourists, will hold a street rally in Pahalgam to send across a message. “We do not support the killing of civilians, especially our guests,” Hamid Dar, a horse owner, said.

A plaque with the names of all 26 victims, killed by a group of terrorists on April 22, 2025 in the high-altitude, non-motorable meadow of Baisaran, has been erected at the entry to Pahalgam. The memorial, set up at Pahalgam’s famous ‘selfie point’, which reads ‘I love Pahalgam’, will be thrown open on the first anniversary of the tragic event. Tourists have already started paying tributes at the memorial, with locals standing guard.
