Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who is also the Minister for Water Resources, said the State government will submit the detailed project report (DPR) on the Mekedatu project to the Centre within the next 10 days.

Speaking at a function to launch a project to fill 110 lakes and other development works for Gundlupet taluk in Chamarajanagar district near here on Tuesday, Mr. Shivakumar said the State government was currently preparing the DPR and the same will be submitted to the Centre in 10 days.

Justice by SC

Claiming that justice had been served to Karnataka by the Supreme Court on the Mekedatu project issue, Mr. Shivakumar said the final decision on the project should now be taken by the Centre.

After Karnataka submits the DPR, the Centre must accord approval. “The project will be implemented once the Centre’s approval is received,” the Deputy Chief Minister said, while pointing out that the State had already opened an office for implementing the project and identified the land required for the project .
