An explosive device was allegedly hurled at the residence of a Congress booth agent’s family in Payyannur, Kannur, Kerala on Monday night, raising fresh concerns over political violence in the region.
The alleged attack targeted the house of V.V. Kamalakshi, near Ramankulam, in Vellur around 10:15 p.m. The device struck an advertisement board in front of the house and exploded, preventing damage to the building or vehicle in the premises. No injuries were reported.
The Payyannur police have conducted a preliminary inspection. Security has since been tightened at the house, with police protection deployed.
According to sources, Nithya, the daughter-in-law of Kamalakshi, had worked as a Congress booth agent during the recent Assembly elections and had reportedly faced threats during that period. Investigators are examining whether the attack is linked to those incidents.
