Namita Jacob, Director of Chetana Trust, a Chennai-based organisation is one of the winners of the IBBY-iRead Outstanding Reading Promoter Award 2026, along with Kirsten Boie from Germany.
The announcement was made at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy. This international recognition celebrates her work in making reading accessible to children with disabilities through books in accessible formats, building a more inclusive world. It also marks the first time India has received this honour in the Outstanding Reading Promoter category, according to a press release.
The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) through its IBBY-iRead Outstanding Reading Promoter Award hopes to further the cause of reading promotion. The award aims to encourage further investment by individuals, organisations and governments in the promotion of children’s reading, a release said.
