The Congress on Monday (April 20, 2026) demanded an immediate, time-bound probe into the latest killings in Manipur, including those of two children, and called for urgent peace measures, compensation for victims, and institutional reforms to restore normalcy in the violence-hit State.

Addressing a press conference at the old headquarters of the All India Congress Committee here, Inner Manipur MP A. Bimol Akoijam alleged that both the Centre and the State government had “abdicated responsibility” of protecting lives and ensuring peace. The party has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate intervention.

Referring to the April 6–7 incident at Tronglaobi village in Bishnupur district where two children were killed and their mother injured, Mr. Akoijam termed it a “gruesome reminder” of continuing insecurity.

He also cited a separate firing incident at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) post in Gelmon village that left three persons dead and several injured.
