After an initial delay, construction of the Vallathai Kadavu bridge over the Cherupuzha, connecting Karamoola and Vallathaipara in Karassery grama panchayat, is making progress.
Officials said the project had entered its final phase. The concrete bridge being built at Vallathai Kadavu is now expected to be opened to traffic before the monsoon.
The old vented pipe bridge at the Kadavu had been demolished and the new bridge is being constructed at a cost of ₹5 crore, sanctioned by the State government.
Construction began in January 2024 as a solution to the frequent submergence of the vented pipe bridge during the monsoon. However, the work was delayed due to design changes.
Officials said work on the final slab of the bridge had begun. Construction of the approach road on the Vallathaipara side has also started. On the Karamoola side, arrangements are being made to provide direct access from the road to the bridge, and no major issues are being reported regarding the approach road there. The road level does not need to be raised on that side.
