The Puttur Town Police have registered a case against Ashok Kumar Rai, Puttur MLA, Puttur Mahalingeshwara temple’s managing trustee Ishwarbhat Panjigudde and others on the charge of trespassing into a property under the control of Bantwal Court.

The complaint was filed by Aravind Rao Kedige, appointed as receiver by the Senior Civil Judge and JMFC Court, Bantwal, for the Kedige family’s 9.79 acres of land in front of the Mahalingeshwara temple. The order was passed on February 26, 2019, in connection with the Final Decree petition of 2018, related to a partition suit, which was pending before the court.

In the complaint, Mr. Kedige alleged that the MLA, Mr. Panjigudde and a few others brought down two old buildings with an earth mover on the land on April 1, 2026.

Mr. Kedige sought action against the MLA and others for trespassing on court property and bringing down two 100-year-old buildings. The act caused a loss of over ₹2 crore, he said.

Based on legal opinion, the police registered the complaint on April 17 for offences under Sections 329(3) and 324(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
