Pigeon droppings and cobwebs were found in the storage areas of a BigBasket warehouse operated by Supermarket Grocery Stores Supplies Pvt. Ltd. in Kompally here, alongside licence violations and unhygienic transport operations, during an inspection by the flying squad of Telangana Food Safety Department on Saturday.
“The facility was operating 22 transport vehicles even though its licence does not include transport under its kind of business. Several of these vehicles were found to be rusty and unhygienic, in violation of Schedule four norms governing food transport,” the department said.

The inspection further revealed lapses in hygiene and food handling practices within the warehouse. Vegetables were found to be unclean and handled in unsafe conditions, raising concerns about overall food safety standards at the facility.
As part of the action taken, food safety officials collected samples of chicken and fish on suspicion of contamination or adulteration. A sample of institutional tamarind, labelled as packed by M/s Raja Rajeshwari Food Processors, was also picked for analysis after inspectors suspected tampering of labels, including possible expiry date manipulation and re-labelling. The samples have been sent for laboratory testingy.
