Minister for Roads and Buildings BC Janardhan Reddy on Sunday (April 19) inaugurated the ‘PM Surya Ghar Utsav’ at Panchamapeta in Banaganapalle town. The Minister formally launched the solar power supply system designed to provide free, subsidized solar electricity to SC and ST families, by pressing a switch.

After unveiling the commemorative plaque marking the launch of the PM Surya Ghar Utsav, Mr. Janardhan Reddy interacted with the beneficiaries of the scheme. Speaking on the occasion, he said the scheme is capable of bringing about a transformation in the lives of the people. “This scheme is being implemented with the noble objective of providing free electricity to one crore households across the country,” the Minister said.

Through this initiative, SC and ST beneficiaries are being provided the opportunity to install solar panels completely free of cost. Andhra Pradesh is the only State providing solar panels to SC and ST communities with a full 100% subsidy, he said and added beneficiaries from other social categories are eligible to receive a subsidy of up to 40%.

In Banaganapalle constituency, 4,606 individuals including 2,910 SC and ST beneficiaries in the Banaganapalle Mandal, are benefiting from this scheme. “In Panchamapeta alone, we are currently extending these benefits to 331 beneficiaries. Through this scheme, households can access up to 300 units of free electricity per month,” he said.
