In a renewed push to break the prolonged deadlock over Legislative Council nominations, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan on Sunday (April 19, 2026), urging expeditious approval of pending nominations under the Governor’s quota.

The names of Prof M. Kodandaram and Mohammad Azharuddin, which had been approved earlier by the State Cabinet, remain pending with the Lok Bhavan since the last Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, who is now transferred to Maharashtra.

The Chief Minister accompanied by Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu and Rajya Sabha member Vem Narender Reddy called on Mr. Shukla and sought the early clearance of the nominations.

The urgency comes in the wake of Minister for Minorities Welfare Mohd Azharuddin completing his six-month period as Minister without being a member of the Legislative Assembly or the Council, which is the Constitutional mandatory provision. He will be completing six months at the end of April, and if he is nominated as MLC he would have to resign.

With the deadline approaching, the government is keen on ensuring that the nomination process is completed without further delay. Sources indicate that the Chief Minister, during his meeting with the Governor, emphasised the contribution of Prof Kodandaram to the Statehood movement and the constitutional necessity in Mr. Azharuddin’s case.
