When independent record stores open their doors on Saturday, April 18, for the annual Record Store Day event, a smorgasbord of musical treats will await vinyl shoppers.

More than 3,000 record shops from across the United States and the world will have copies from some of roughly 380 special releases – most on vinyl LPs – available for purchase in limited quantities. (See the complete list of new releases here.)

Many stores have special events, too. To find a store near you, go to the Record Store Day website. For instance, New York City's Rough Trade Records will host a daylong event with live performances at Rockefeller Center.

Violet Grohl, the daughter of Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl, is releasing her first physical piece of music, a 7-inch single, on Record Store Day in advance of her debut album, "Be Sweet To Me," which is due to be released May 29. She will perform at Fingerprints Records in Long Beach, California, as part of Record Store Day festivities.
