Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was crowned Best Game on Friday, April 17, at the annual BAFTA Games Awards in London, the latest in a string of gongs for the French indie title. The production also won for Debut Game and the award for Best Lead Performer for Jennifer English.

Clair Obscur, the first game from Sandfall Interactive based in southern France, tells the story of a small group of characters battling a powerful entity threatening their home city of Lumière, which bears a striking resemblance to Belle Epoque Paris.

Inspired by Japanese games such as the long-running Final Fantasy franchise, the French title is a role-playing game offering turn-based combat against the world's monsters.

Having sold more than five million copies, the game has become a global phenomenon since its release a year ago. In December, it became the first French production to win Game of the Year at the Game Awards in Los Angeles.
