Inventor Of Heelys Dies 2 Decades After Wheeled Sneakers Swept AmericaRoger Adams, inventor of Heelys — an early-aughts fad that allowed wearers to step normally in their sneakers and also roll on wheels embedded in the heel — has died at age 71, The New York Times reported.Adams, a psychologist who occasionally tinkered with gadgets in his spare time, had grown up with parents who owned a roller-skating rink in Washington state.He came up with the idea for Heelys in 1998, the Times reported, after observing skateboarders and rollerbladers in California.
