Sakthivel S, a cost accountant from Chennai’s Thiruvanmiyur, is busy distributing his wedding invitation cards.
But it is no ordinary card.
The invitation for his big day is peppered with yellow. In a city where cricket borders on religion, Sakthivel’s card is a colourful, wacky homage to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a cricket team Sakthivel has been following since the inception of the IPL.
Designed like an IPL ticket, the invitation mentions the groom (Sakthivel) and bride (Santhoshini) as the ‘Chennai Super Kings’ and ‘Chennai Super Queens’. With a caricature of them wearing the yellow jersey, the card also features a picture of the trophy-lifting moment of IPL 2023, apart from photos of Sakthivel painted in yellow during a match and him with his idol, MS Dhoni. It also features the iconic ‘Whistle Podu’ tagline.
“I love my wedding card,” beams Sakthivel, “It truly captures the essence of how much I have supported the men in yellow over the years, through ups and downs.”
