Two young women S. Keerthana (26) and M. Nivethitha (23) suffered injuries when they tried to jump out of the moving train at Ramanathapuram railway station in the early hours of Wednesday (April 15, 2026).The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Tamil Nadu Railway Police (TRP) personnel found one of the woman lying in an unconscious state on platform one at around 3.20 a.m.Upon investigation, the police found that the injured woman had travelled with another woman from Chengalpet to Ramanathapuram by Tirupathi-Rameswaram Express.The women had overslept in the ladies compartment even after the train had reached their destination Ramanathapuram.Only when the train started to move further towards Rameswaram, the women had woken up and they hurriedly tried to get out of the train.However, as they realised that the train was approaching the end of the platform, both of them jumped out of the train with their luggage and fell on the platform and sustained injuries.While the other woman had managed to walk home nearby the station, this woman had remained unconscious on the platform after falling. The TRP rushed her to the government hospital in Ramanathapuram.Both the women were referred to different private hospitals in Madurai and Ramanthapuram. Published - April 15, 2026 11:26 am IST
