The Telangana High Court declined to pass any specific order in a writ petition seeking a direction to appoint a regular Director General of Police, with Advocate General A. Sudarshan Reddy informing the court that already a list of three empanelled IPS officers was sent to the competent authority for the selection.

The order was passed by Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy in a petition filed by one T. Dhangopal Rao challenging the appointment of B. Shivadhar Reddy as in-charge DGP. He contended that there was no concept of in-charge DGP as per the law laid down by the Supreme Court with regard to DGP appointment in the case of Prakash Singh vs Union of India.

The AG informed the Bench that the Chief Secretary on March 11 held a meeting to prepare a panel of three IPS officers eligible for appointment as DGP and the file was under process for selection of one of them as DGP. The matter was posted to April 27 for next hearing.
