Following the conclusion of the Assembly elections, political parties have begun assessing their prospects across the district’s five constituencies —Thodupuzha, Idukki, Devikulam, Peerumade, and Udumbanchola. The CPI(M) Idukki District Secretariat has observed that some constituencies witnessed a tight fight in the district.
CPI(M) District Secretary C.V. Varghese told the media on Friday that the party would retain its four sitting seats. “The party has overcome the UDF’s upper hand in this election,” said Mr. Varghese.
On the other hand, the Congress party too remains confident . KPCC General Secretary Ibrahimkutty Kallar claimed that the party is poised to win four seats. “We will win Peerumade and Thodupuzha seats by huge margins, and also expect to win Idukki and Udumbanchola. We witnessed a sentiment among voters similar to that of local body elections,” he said. He noted that Devikulam is facing a tight triangular fight following the entry of S. Rajendran, who is contesting as an NDA candidate. Mr. Rajendran’s deep influence among plantation workers is a major concern for both the UDF and LDF, with political observers noting that the final outcome may hinge on the votes he secure.
