The Department of Civil Engineering student club SUSTHIRAA at VVCE, Mysuru, in association with IIT Madras, successfully organised a one-day workshop on ‘Green Horizons in Civil Engineering’, bringing together students, academicians, and industry experts to deliberate on sustainable engineering practices.
Shobha Shankar, Vice-Principal and Dean of Academics, during her presidential address, emphasised the importance of integrating sustainability into engineering education and professional practice. She highlighted the critical role of civil engineers in addressing pressing global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation.
The keynote address was delivered by Shiva Nagendra S.M., Professor at IIT Madras, who shared valuable insights into emerging smart and green technologies and sustainable infrastructure planning, emphasising the need for innovative, future-ready engineering solutions.
The workshop also featured sessions by K.S. Lokesh, former professor and Registrar of JSS S&TU; Mahesh P.A., professor of Respiratory Medicine at JSS Medical College; and Gandhimathi R., professor at NIT Trichy. Their interdisciplinary insights enriched discussions on sustainability and environmental health. S.K. Prasad, professor and Head of the Civil Engineering Department, highlighted that interactive sessions enabled participants to gain practical insights and exchange ideas on real-world applications.
