An alleged incident of distribution of money to lure voters was reported on the day of polling during the byelection to Bagalkot Assembly constituency on Thursday and the Bagalkot Police have registered a case against a man said to be a Congress worker.

Following a complaint by Vithal Naik, a member of the election flying squad, officers in the Navanagar police station registered a case against Jaffar Bepari, reportedly a Congress worker. He faces charges of distributing money to voters in Vambe colony in Bagalkot.

Acting on a tip-off, the flying squad members had rushed to Vambe colony. But they did not find anyone. However, later, they came across a video being circulated on the social media in which the accused is distributing money to voters. Based on this video, the officers filed a complaint.

Posting on X, Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer said that after the video clip of money being distributed surfaced on social media, the matter was inquired into and an FIR was registered in Navanagar Police Station, Bagalkot.
