A 49-year-old school teacher was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Salem on Thursday evening (April 9, 2026).
The arrested, P. Balasubramaniam of Kambar Street in Chinna Tirupathi, was working in a government middle school in Sankari taluk. Meanwhile, girl students studying in classes VI to VIII claimed that the teacher was sexually assaulting them and informed their parents. Parents who came to the school inquired with the school headmistress. Following the allegation, the school education department conducted an inquiry and suspended him on Wednesday (April 8, 2026).
On Thursday, the school headmistress lodged a complaint with the Sankari All Women’s police against Balasubramaniam. The police registered a case under the POCSO Act and arrested the teacher.
Inquiries revealed that in 2013, while Balasubramaniam was working at a school in Salem City, the Sooramangalam police registered a POCSO case against him for sexually assaulting the students. The case is under trial in the Court.
