An alleged drug peddler from Karkala taluk in Udupi district was arrested under provisions of Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act.
In a press release, police said Mohammed Faizal, 22, of Kasaba village in Karkala taluk of Udupi district, was accused in five cases of drug peddling. Of this, he was convicted in two cases, while two cases were pending trial. One case was under investigation.
Karkala Town Police Inspector submitted a report for arrest of Faizal under PITNDPS, which Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar forwarded to Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Amit Singh.
Based on the order by Mr. Singh, the Karkala Town Police Inspector arrested Faizal on April 7. Faizal will be lodged in Ballari Central Prison, the police said.
