Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) on Thursday (April 9, 2026) appealed to its ally Indian National Congress to withdraw its candidate against the opposing party NCP in the Baramati bypolls to be held on April 23.
NCP(SP) MLA Rohit Pawar met Maharashtra Congress president Harshawardhan Sapkal in the early hours on Thursday (April 9, 2026). Soon thereafter, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar called Mr. Sapkal, even as Sharad Pawar dialled Mallikarjun Kharge with the appeal.
Congress leader Vijay Waddettiwar declared that the Congress was planning to withdraw its candidate, pending an official announcement by the party.

Congress sources said that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was upset with Mr. Waddettiwar for unilaterally making the announcement without party’s permission.
