Over 150 people have approached various hospitals for medical treatment following a suspected food poisoning incident linked to a feast at the Karaputhiyedath Madappura Sree Muthappan temple at Mattannur in Kannur district of Kerala on Monday afternoon (April 6, 2026) between 12.40 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Symptoms, including fever, vomiting, diarrhoea and headache, prompted people from Karayi, Thelappu and Peravoor to seek treatment at various hospitals.
Health authorities said a majority of patients were discharged after being administered fluids, but children and elderly persons continued to return with persistent symptoms. More people are continuing to seek treatment on Wednesday (April 6, 2026).
According to the Health department, around 120 people approached Mattannur Community Health Centre, Thalassery General Hospital and District Government Hospital to seek treatment and eight people were admitted. However, more were likely to be admitted to various private hospitals, the sources said.
A preliminary assessment by health officials indicated that the contamination may have originated from a side dish. A special medical team has been deployed tomonitor patients and assess the situation.
