The Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) and Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) have entered into a strategic alliance to strengthen ship repair and shipbuilding capabilities across South Asia.
The agreement covers ship repair and dry-docking services, technical knowledge sharing, and joint exploration of shipbuilding projects. The memorandum of understanding was signed in Colombo, marking a significant step in maritime cooperation between India and Sri Lanka, according to a release issued on Tuesday.
By combining DCIL’s dredging fleet and operational expertise with CDPLC’s infrastructure, the partnership aims to deliver cost-effective and high-quality solutions for vessel maintenance, retrofitting, and new ship construction.
Speaking on the occasion, Captain S. Divakar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DCIL, said the collaboration reflects a strong commitment to fleet modernisation and regional cooperation. He added that the partnership would improve the life cycle efficiency of DCIL’s fleet and create opportunities for the joint development of specialised dredgers and offshore support vessels.
Thimira S. Godakumbura, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CDPLC, said the alliance would strengthen their position as a preferred maritime service provider while promoting technological exchange and sustainable growth.
