April 7 (UPI) -- One man was killed and two others were "neutralized" on Tuesday after gunmen exchanged fire with police near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul, Turkish authorities said.
Two police officers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and two suspects were undergoing questioning in custody, the Ministry of the Interior said in a statement.
The ministry said the deceased gunman was "connected to a terrorist organisation that exploits religion," while the other two were siblings.
"Three individuals who engaged in an armed clash with our police officers on duty in front of the Yapı Kredi Plaza Blocks in Istanbul have been neutralized. In the clash, two of our heroic police officers sustained minor injuries. The identities of the terrorists have been identified," Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci said in a statement.
