The fifth and final season of Amazon Prime Video’s popular superhero satire series, The Boys, lands this Wednesday, with a pair of episodes set to premiere on the streaming service.Forbes‘The Boys’ Season 5 Premiere Recap & Review: A Diabolical Start To The Final SeasonBy Erik KainFacing off against Homelander and his super-fascist cronies, we have our rag-tag band of heroes and anti-heroes from both the main series and the spinoff, Gen-V, which I’ve actually enjoyed more than the main series in recent years. That’s largely thanks to Season 4 of The Boys, which I found both underwhelming and – at times – offensive in all the wrong ways. That being said, the Season 4 finale was quite good and I’m excited to see how this all ends. The beginning of the end is almost here. Victoria Neuman, meanwhile, had positioned herself to become the next Vice President, secretly working for Vought under the guise of progressive, anti-Supe policies.Butcher, meanwhile, spent the season dying from a tumor caused by his repeated use of Temp V. Doubling down, he took Compound V which interacted with his tumor, giving him terrifying powers of his own. In the end, he kills Neuman with his powers and sped off on his own with the Supe-killing virus we learned about first in Gen-V.Homelander’s son, Ryan, ends up killing CIA Deputy Director Grace Mallory after she and Butcher attempted to use him as a weapon against Homelander, and he’s left traumatized and alone by the end of the season. Things aren’t much better for the rest of The Boys. Hugh, Mother’s Milk and Frenchie are captured, while Starlight is left running a desperate rebellion. Puppet president Steven Calhoun declares martial law.Gen V Season 2 RecapGen-VCredit: Prime VideoSeason 2 of Gen V sees the students of Godolkin return to campus, now under the supervision of a new dean called Cipher, who possesses strange and mysterious powers. It turns out in the end that Cipher is actually Doug Brightbill, a non-Supe being controlled by the season’s true villain, Godolkin U founder, Thomas Godolkin.Godolkin’s true goal? To “thin the herd” by wiping out all Supes with powers he deemed frivolous or weak, creating a super-race among the super-race. At the center of the plot is, once again, Marie, whose blood-bending powers are among the most powerful in Supedom (the same powers as Victoria Neuman). In the end, Marie, Emma, Jordan, Sam and Cate join up with Starlight’s resistance in one last fight to end Homelander’s reign of terror. What Is ‘The Boys’ Season 5 About? The logline for Season 5 reads:In the fifth and final season, it’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a “Freedom Camp.” Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.Watch ‘The Boys’ Season 5 TrailerAre you looking forward to Season 5 of The Boys?
