The United States has rescued an airman whose F-15 jet was downed in Iran, two U.S. officials told Reuters late on Saturday (April 4, 2026). The officials did not immediately provide further details on the rescue. The airman was the second member of a two-person crew of an F-15 that Iran said on Friday was brought down by its air defenses.
In an apparent move to heap further pressure on Tehran following Donald Trump’s latest ultimatum to Iran on opening Strait of Hormuz, a senior Israeli defence official said Israel was preparing to attack Iranian energy facilities, and was awaiting approval from the U.S. The timeframe for such attacks would be within the next week, the official said.

Iran warned the U.S. and Israel that the “entire region will become a hell for you” if attacks escalated, according to Iranian media reports. After a fourth attack near the Bushehr power plant on Saturday (April 4, 2026), Iran Foreign Minister warned in a letter to the United Nations of an “intolerable situation that poses a serious risk of radiological release,” Iran’s state media reported.
