Iranian and American forces raced each other on Saturday (April 4, 2026) to recover a crew member of the first U.S. fighter jet to go down inside Iran since the start of the war. Tehran said it had shot down the F-15 warplane, while US media reported United States special forces had rescued one of its two crew members, with the other still missing.

Iran’s military also said it downed a U.S. A-10 ground attack aircraft in the Gulf, with US media saying the pilot was rescued.
An unnamed source told Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency on Friday (April 3, 2026) that Tehran had rejected a U.S. proposal for a 48-hour ceasefire. The source said the proposal was made on Wednesday through another country, which was not named. There was no immediate comment or confirmation from the U.S.
