The entry of commercial goods vehicles into Delhi, except those that are CNG-powered, electric, or compliant with BS-VI norms, will be restricted from November 1 as part of the ‘Air Pollution Mitigation Action Plan 2026’, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a statement on Friday.

The government will also regulate non-essential traffic inflow. During periods of severe pollution, it may consider staggered office timings, work-from-home directives, and additional restrictions on polluting vehicles for immediate relief, the CMO added.

Many of these measures are already part of directions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM). Earlier this year, the CAQM directed all States in the NCR to prepare annual action plans to combat air pollution. The plans were subsequently uploaded on the CAQM website.

“This is not just a policy announcement; it is an enforcement-driven campaign powered by resources, technology, and strict oversight,” Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, adding that the goal is to ensure cleaner air for every resident of Delhi.

The action plan targets key sources of pollution, including vehicular emissions, road dust, construction activity, industrial discharge, and biomass burning, through a scientific, data-driven approach. It identifies 11 priority sectors with clearly defined responsibilities, timelines, and real-time monitoring mechanisms to ensure compliance, the CMO said.
