City gas distribution (CGD) has been witnessing a renewed interest from domestic and commercial users of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) over the past couple of weeks for piped natural gas (PNG) connections.
“In the last two weeks alone, we have registered 82 new commercial customers and completed around 20. We did not have any dry out in retail outlets like in the case of petrol / diesel bunks,” said an official of a PNG company in the State.
“About two years ago when we held camps canvassing for customers and explaining the advantages of natural gas, there were residential associations that drove away our people. Now they are calling us to know the status of the gas pipelines and the possibility of providing them with PNG connections,” he added.
District Collectors have also directed commercial LPG users to register with their respective PNG providers so that connections may be provided on a priority basis for them. “The State government is monitoring the progress of pipeline laying works and provision of connections to commercial and domestic consumers. They are extending all possible help to companies,” said K.S.R.Prasad, managing director, Torrent Gas Chennai Pvt Ltd., who is also the State-level coordinator for the CGD Network, who can be contacted on 63574 69742.
