RIYADH: The Saudi “Transport Companies Database” initiative is expected to connect local and Gulf companies with transport service providers, enhancing communication and facilitating contract flexibility.
This comes amidst current geopolitical challenges that necessitate speed and reliability in supply chains, as Rakan Al-Otaishan, chairman of the National Committee for Land Transport at the Federation of Saudi Chambers, told Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper.
Al-Otaishan stated that the number of trucks operating in the land transport sector in Saudi Arabia has reached approximately 500,000. The Eastern Province accounts for the largest share of this fleet, benefiting from its border location with the Gulf countries, its industrial weight, and its vast geographical area.
He explained that this density highlights the pivotal role played by the Eastern Province in the transport and logistics system, especially given its direct connection to intra-Gulf Cooperation Council trade, in addition to its extensive industrial base that supports the demand for transport services.
The chairman explained that the initiative aims to address the gap in access to reliable transport companies in the region by providing comprehensive data that includes companies’ activities, services, and prices. This will enhance transparency and improve the efficiency of decision-making for beneficiary businesses.
