"When it comes to housing, we will need to act quickly and decisively. Because it is the number-one concern for Parisians: finding a place to live and paying the rent." Immediately after being inaugurated on Sunday, March 29, as the successor to Anne Hidalgo, the new mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, made housing his top priority, as the capital continues to lose residents. As of January 1, 2023, the city counted 10,000 fewer inhabitants than the previous year, according to the latest INSEE statistics published in December 2025.
