An American journalist was kidnapped in broad daylight by an armed group in central Baghdad, an incident that highlights the widespread risks of the US-Israeli war against Iran throughout the region.
The journalist is Shelly Kittleson, who works for American and Italian media outlets, including Il Foglio and ANSA.
Just today, an article by her was published on Il Foglio's website, titled "The Price of Kurdish Neutrality.
Attacks in Iraqi Kurdistan." The news of the kidnapping was followed, in the hours that followed, by rumors of a possible release, which were never confirmed amid what is described as a climate of great confusion in Baghdad over the kidnapping.
According to a CNN colleague, "she may be being held hostage in Baghdad by Kataib Hezbollah" (KH), an Iraqi Shiite paramilitary group allied with Tehran.
