Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Monday said under the Summer Action Plan for water supply, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) will maintain a peak water production of around 1,002 million gallons per day (MGD) during the summer and deploy about 1,221 tankers to make sure that water reaches every household.
The number of ‘fixed points’ where the tankers will supply water has also been increased from around 9,000 to 13,000, an official said.
The Minister acknowledged the scale of challenges faced by the DJB, but reaffirmed the government’s commitment to provide a continuous water supply. “The system we inherited had multiple challenges such as old infrastructure, outdated technology, and inefficiencies at every step. Transforming it is not easy, but we have begun. We must work with sincerity, accountability, and a sense of duty. Clean water, efficient sewer systems, and a rejuvenated Yamuna are not optional, they are essential for Delhi’s future,” Mr. Singh said.
The Minister also said the DJB plans to commission 436 more tubewells before summer, taking the total number to 6,290, bridging the gap between the demand and availability of raw water.
Under the Summer Action Plan, the DJB will also launch the ‘DJB 1916’ mobile app for real-time complaint registration and tracking and also an AI-powered chatbot for instant grievance support.
