Opposition parties in Maharashtra criticised the State Government on Sunday (March 28, 2026) over the death of a resident of Akola while allegedly standing in a queue outside a gas agency.

The family of Shankarrao Shirsat, 75, former sarpanch of Anvi Mirzapur village, had filed a complaint at the Akola police station alleging that he died on Saturday while waiting for an LPG cylinder.

‘Due to negligence’

“We have filed a complaint against the District Supply Officer, Food and Grain Distribution Department, and the gas agency for negligence. The police said they will do the panchanama and file the FIR,” said Milind Damodar, 32, a relative of the deceased.

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar claimed death was caused due to a long queue for gas cylinders.
