With short supply of cooking gas cylinders, scores of men, women and children were forced to wait for hours in a queue in front of an Indane LPG cylinder agency godown at Thoppur near Kariyapatti on Tuesday. After waiting for long under the scorching sun, the impatient LPG subscribers squatted on Kariyapatti-Tiruchuli road demanding for immediate delivery of the cooking gas cylinder. However, after the police intervened, they gave up the road blockade. They complained that they had been making frantic attempts to get LPG refill for last several days.“It took three days for us to even making the booking for the refill. I got an SMS on Friday claiming that the invoice for the refill for ₹964 had been generated, on Friday,” said a resident of K. Karisalkulam, K. Pavalamurugan, 35.Stating that he was staying in Madurai for his work, Mr. Pavalamurugan claimed that since the cylinder had not been delivered till date, along with his wife, he had travelled all the way for five km only for the LPG refill.Over 100 subscribers waited for hours without food.“It was around 3 p.m. did the agency representative told us that the refill would be delivered only for those who had booked till Friday. Had they told this in the morning, we need not have starved and waited in the sweltering heat,” he complained. He wondered as to when the refill would be delivered for him.
